Day 00: Prep

Tomorrow marks the first day of production for "Dot Conner: Webtective, The Movie," and today was all about making sure every detail was in place to ensure a smooth start. Here's a glimpse into our prep day, filled with setting up lighting, testing camera equipment, and putting the finishing touches on the set design of Dot's bedroom.

Lighting Setup: Creating the Perfect Mood

After an introductory meeting, the lighting team (called "grip and electric" or "G&E") meticulously rigged the lighting for the set. Lighting is crucial in filmmaking, as it sets the tone and mood for each scene. For "Dot Conner," we wanted to create a mix of cozy warmth and mysterious intrigue, reflecting Dot's dual nature as a normal teenager and a budding detective. We experimented with various setups to ensure that the lighting would not only enhance the overall aesthetic of the film but also make it easier for the camera operators to move around the set. By mid-afternoon, we had a lighting design that perfectly captured the essence of Dot's world.

Camera Crew: Ensuring Flawless Footage

Next, our camera crew set up, test, and fine-tuned the camera equipment. With a project of this scale, it's vital that the cameras operate flawlessly, capturing every moment with precision. The crew experimented with the cameras and lenses making sure everything was working properly. We are using two cameras on this film and both are the DJI Ronin 4D. Our lead actress, Gili Gould, stopped by to say hi and see the set, and the team couldn't help put take some shots of her wearing her signature fedora.

Dot's Bedroom: The Final Touches

One of the most exciting parts of today was putting the final touches on Dot's bedroom. This space is central to the story, reflecting Dot's personality and interests. Our design team has worked tirelessly to create a room that is both functional for filming and true to Dot's character. For the first time, we'll get to see where Dot records her vlogs which meant there was more to design for this set than the one built for the series. We can't wait for you to see how it turned out.

Ready for Action

As the day drew to a close, there was a palpable sense of accomplishment and excitement among the team. We achieved everything we set out to do, and more. The lights are set, the cameras are primed, and Dot's bedroom is ready for action.

Tomorrow, the real work begins as we start filming the first scenes of "Dot Conner: Webtective, The Movie." Today was a testament to the dedication and hard work of everyone involved, and it set the stage for what promises to be an incredible production journey.

Stay tuned for more updates from the set as we bring Dot Conner's story to life on the big screen!

Good job on getting from a design in the abstract to a physical environment. Keep up the good work.
